Grey Matters - Nobby Seymour

Nobby is a favourite family friend of Stamp Interiors, and his latest exhibition has got everyone in a tizz. 'Grey Matters' (represented by Woodbine Art) comprise twelve translucent works in wax and tracing paper assembled over a period of two and a half years.

Many artists contemplate how ideas form in our consciousness, where do they come from?

In Nobby's own words - 'From my own experience, memories of the dramatic awakening of my sensibility in childhood dominated my later development - for better or for worse. My creative essence commenced at the age of seven: I was taken to the theatre and it was the magic moments after the curtain rose that I became aware of conscious being and another world beyond.
Many, many years later, in this world beyond, I am mindful of Vladimir Tatlin’s maxim ‘the form is inherent in the material’ and my very own open circuit mantra; “CONCEPT indicates MEDIUM which determines PROCESS which generates FORM which refines CONCEPT” etc. Meditating on the maxim, the mantra and the formative memory, the image of each work would appear - though sometimes only after weeks of trawling after red herrings.'

The works are theatrical. Intense thought and labour behind the surface bring an apparently simple production to your attention. They are a formal drama on which the surface plays the starring role.

'Grey Matters' runs from March 17th at Woodbine Art in Malmsbury

Belle pushes the boat out for 2012

bellePrint Magazines are a tough business with all the online material available. But a big well done too Belle who's readership jumped almost 22% last year according to the latest Roy Morgan readership results for the 12 months ending December 2012. It was far and away the best performer in the homes category, with a readership of 134,000 (we subscribe - do you?!). Big congratulations to Neale Whitaker, Tanya Buchanan, Steve Cordony and the team.
Other magazines with increased readership included:
  • Home Beautiful: 19.9%
  • Real Living: 13.6%
  • Country Style: 12.5%
  • House & Garden: 5.8%
  • Luxury Home Design: 5.1%
Magazines which lost readership included Vogue Living (down 6.2%) and Better Homes & Gardens (slightly down on last year at -0.8%).
Inside Out remained the same.
